Wrong-Way Driver Causes Bridgeport Crash, Multiple Injuries Reported

Multiple people were injured when a driver drove in the wrong direction on Route 8 in Fairfield County causing a five-vehicle pileup.

The crash took place in Bridgeport just north of Exit 3 around 6:30 p.m., Sunday, July 9 on Route 8, according to the Connecticut State Police.

State Police said four vehicles were traveling on Route 8 South, north of Exit 3 when a 2004 Nissan Murano SL/SE, traveling in the wrong direction, sideswiped a 2006 Volkswagen, which then caused the Nissan to lose control and sideswipe a 2017 Nissan Altima.

The Nissan Murano then spun out and struck a 2012 Toyota Rav 4 and a 2013 Jeep Wrangler, police said.

The driver and passenger of the Volkswagen reported head and neck pain and were transported by EMS to Bridgeport Hospital.

The driver of the Toyota Rav 4 reported neck and back pain and was transported by EMS to Griffin Hospital.

The driver of the Altima reported head and leg pain and was transported by EMS to Bridgeport Hospital.

All vehicles were towed from the scene.

The collision remains under investigation.
